It is interesting that the economy creates strange situations. For example, you are seeing consolidations and "strategic" mergers from individuals and companies that seemed to crave and prosper independently. Like companies joining other organizations so as to shore up some potential revenue sieves. The big question when there is a merger or a buy-out is what will happen to the staff? Sure, some of the professionals will port over. But was their function too specific (or too general) to successfully make the transfer? What about clerical workers? Oh, it is possible that some key personnel may be covered in the umbrella, but what happens is that many will find that they will leave as working for a bigger organization is far different than a smaller sized one. Also, the key personnel and upper management will have to report to a chain of command. No big deal for some, but for those who are strong-minded and have run businesses, yielding this control may prove problematic. Also, the amount of hours required at the new organization may be much higher than in a smaller organization, ESPECIALLY for the owner or management. Just some interesting observations, insights and predictions of our local business climate.
